Creek County authorities believe they've found the murder weapon in a recent double homicide.

Students from a criminal justice class at a local Vo-Tech school were helping authorities search for the weapon that was used to kill 55-year-old Earl Kirkwood and his common law wife, 44-year-old Karen Strange. The couple was killed at their home in Pretty Water in March.

A suspect in the case told authorities where to find the weapon, in a wooded area in the 10000 block of west 51st street. One of the students found the gun Tuesday. Creek County Sheriff's deputy Michael O'Keefe, "This a major part of the case, since day one, very important to keep looking, until we found it.”

The weapon will be sent to the OSBI lab for analysis.
