The News on Six has learned that the Tulsa County jail employee accused of sexually assaulting an inmate, served 17 years in prison.

Records show the man was convicted of manslaughter and armed robbery in Alabama. CCA, the company that runs the jail, says convicted felons are only allowed to work in the addiction treatment programs, since they can use their personal experiences to help others.

A female inmate on Wednesday accused the staff member of assaulting her.

The staff member is on leave until the investigation is complete.
