An apartment building caught fire Friday afternoon in midtown Tulsa.

Firefighters were called to the apartments near 17th and Utica around noon. When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the building.

Three adults and a baby were stuck on a balcony, but firefighters say they were never in danger. Tulsa Fire Dist Chief Eddie Bell, "If there is any way to shelter those people in place and we have the fire under control we'd rather do it that way. Any time you have to bring an occupant or person down a ladder, they're not use to climbing down it's always a concern, a safety issue."

Three or four of the apartments were heavily damaged. Fire Investigators say the fire started in a downstairs unit, but they are still trying to figure out how.
