A group of World War II veterans from Tulsa have received long overdue recognition.
26 veterans were awarded with high school diplomas Tuesday night. About 60 years ago, when World War II was underway, the men left Tulsa to serve our country before they were able to graduate from high school. They never got their diplomas, until now.
Veteran, William Stephenson, "Deep down in my heart I think this is the most wonderful thing to happen to us. They waited too long to recognize us old codgers." Veterans who weren't able to attend Tuesday night's commencement will have their diplomas mailed to them, or to their families.
Organizers of the graduation say the men have earned their diplomas, through their patriotism, service, and sacrifice.
