NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ A University of Oklahoma medical team has given more than 1,000 doses of the antibiotic Cipro to students who may have been exposed to meningitis.
Medical officials said Wednesday it was unlikely the disease would spread, but also said they wanted to be cautious.
A visitor to the campus has the disease and is hospitalized in serious condition. The young man visited several dormitories and five fraternities last week as part of a visitors weekend.
An emergency response center was opened at the university's McCasland Field House and people who believed they might have had contact with the man were each given one dose of the medicine.
