MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ A McAlester man was struck by a freight train and killed after he lay on the tracks, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Joe Robert Blan, 70, was lying on railroad tracks about 7 p.m. Friday when a Union Pacific train engineer traveling through McAlester sounded an emergency horn, troopers said. Blan sat up, but didn't move out of the way, the patrol said.
Blan landed 60 feet away from the tracks and died on impact.
The driver of the 100-car train was not injured.
