Tulsans vote in a week on a $390-million sales tax package. KOTV’s Emory Bryan says the package is primarily for road improvements. It will be a 5-year tax, but not an increase, just a continuation of a sales tax that is set to expire.
A breakdown of the package, provided by the city is available on their website. CLICK HERE FOR WEBSITE A chart on the website shows that about half of the money goes for streets and transportation. Other big chunks would go to public safety, sewers and flood control. Traffic would be relieved eventually by the widening and renovation of ten major intersections, and more than a dozen mile long sections of arterial streets. The 3rd penny sales tax is the main way the city pays for one-time expenses, such as new buildings and new equipment.
