(Tulsa-AP) -- City officials in Tulsa are kicking off their campaign to convince voters to extend a third-penny sales tax for another five years.

Mayor Susan Savage says the tax provides Tulsa an unparalleled quality of life and Councilor Joe Williams adds the vote is to continue an existing tax, not create a new tax.

The tax would generate about 390 million dollars that officials say would be used for numerous projects. Among the projects are road improvements, police and fire, emergency medical services, parks and Tulsa Transit.

The tax was first approved in 1980 and will be voted on again on May Eighth.
