(Guthrie-AP) -- The National Finals Steer Roping is ending a 17-year partnership with the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie by moving to Amarillo, Texas, in November.
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association decided recently to move the event to a new arena in Amarillo.
The steer roping finals moved to Guthrie in 1984 in hopes it would be in conjunction with the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. The National Finals Rodeo moved to Las Vegas in 1985.
Bobbie Steenbergen with the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce says the steer roping finals brought about a half (m) million dollars to the local economy each year.
