WILBURTON, Okla. (AP) _ A Lawton man on basketball scholarship at Eastern Oklahoma State College died Wednesday in a team scrimmage, authorities said.

Carroll J. Warner was pronounced dead at Latimer County General Hospital shortly after collapsing about 1 p.m. inside the field house gym, college spokesman Hank Mooney said.

The Mountaineers men's basketball team had been scrimmaging about 15 minutes when Warner, 20, fell and hit his head on the floor, got up, and ran up and down the court a couple more times, Mooney said. He then went to the sidelines, sat down and collapsed.

Medical authorities arrived in about six minutes and took him by ambulance to the hospital. An autopsy will be done at the state medical examiner's office in Tulsa, Mooney said.

Warner played in the team's last game March 11 at the National Junior College Athletic Association Region II final in Shawnee, Mooney said.

He was a football tight end and basketball center at Lawton High School, Athletic Director Carl Ryker said.

``He was a bright student, hard-working and personable,'' Ryker said.
