WASHINGTON (AP) _ Dust off the barbecue and the badminton set. Daylight saving time is about to return with its long evenings, perfect for cookouts and backyard sports.

Officially, daylight time returns at 2 a.m. Sunday, when clocks should be set forward an hour.

That's right, spring forward.

Most people will make the change before retiring Saturday night _ especially those who want to avoid being late for church. Standard time returns Oct. 28.

The law allows states and U.S. territories to exempt themselves from daylight time, and the clock-changing ritual is not observed in Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands or American Samoa.
