NEW YORK (AP) _ Best-selling espionage author David Wise is writing a book about accused spy Robert Philip Hanssen, the third such deal announced within the past two weeks.

Wise, whose previous books include ``The Invisible Government'' and ``Cassidy's Run,'' is expected to have his latest work released by Random House in 2002.

``When this case broke, David was the first person I thought of to write the story,'' Robert Loomis, Random House's vice president and executive editor, said in a statement Tuesday. ``Little did I know he was already on it.''

Wise's project is untitled.

Other books being worked on about Hanssen include ``The Three Worlds of Dr. Death,'' a Little, Brown release by Time magazine reporters Elaine Shannon and Ann Blackman, and an untitled work by Adrian Havill for St. Martin's Press.
