(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Congressman Steve Largent says he plans an announcement in the next few weeks about whether he'll run for governor next year.

Largent was at the state Capitol today to talk to G-O-P lawmakers about his plans.

House Minority Leader Fred Morgan says Largent wanted to give Republican lawmakers early notice that he's making the announcement soon.

Morgan says Largent asked him to visit with him at some point about ideas for moving the state forward.

Largent's in his fourth term as Oklahoma's First District representative and isn't confirming that he will run for governor.

He says he and his wife are weighing the decision and discussing it with their children.

Largent calls the governorship "a huge responsibility" and "a big hill to climb."
