WASHINGTON (AP) — The debut song ``Kryptonite'' has been a huge hit for 3 Doors Down. But Brad Arnold, lead singer for the Mississippi-based rock band, never expected it would be.
``I guess the first time I heard it — it's been a little while — but it was originally recorded on a demo we made back in '97 at a local radio station there in Biloxi,'' Arnold told AP Radio. ``When I heard it, I mean, it seemed like a good song but I never expected it to do what it did.''
``Kryptonite'' has been nominated for best rock song at the Grammys, to be presented Feb. 21 in Los Angeles.
3 Doors Down was named favorite new pop artist at the American Music Awards in January.
Despite the band's success, Arnold said he doesn't believe 3 Doors Down will be around as long as groups like the Rolling Stones.
``Those guys really love it. But I'd do it — if I could do it that long, I would,'' he said.
