MIAMI (AP) â€” Customs agents Wednesday seized 880 pounds of cocaine valued at $8 million that had been smuggled into the country aboard a Haitian freighter.

The agents, acting on a tip, had been watching the freighter since it docked in the Miami River a week ago, Customs spokeswoman Norma Morfa said.

The drugs were loaded into a Ryder rental truck, which the agents, along with Miami police, followed out of the port. The truck's Haitian driver was arrested after police dogs detected the cocaine, Morfa said.
