SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Authorities want to find two people they believe may have supplied a getaway vehicle for the seven inmates who escaped from a Texas prison last month.
The Suburban was waiting for the fugitives when they arrived at a Wal-Mart parking lot in a hijacked prison pickup, enabling them to flee before officials set up roadblocks, police believe. The keys were inside the vehicle.
John Moriarty, an investigator for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, told the San Antonio Express-News that officials learned a San Antonio man sold the used sport utility vehicle two days before the Dec. 13 escape to a Hispanic man and woman in their 40s or 50s.
The man who sold the Suburban through a newspaper ad is not considered a suspect in the case, authorities say.
Five of the fugitives were found Jan. 22 in Woodland Park, Colo., including one who committed suicide. The last two surrendered Jan. 25 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
