ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — Washington Wizards guard Rod Strickland will stand trial for drunken driving April 3.
Strickland attended a brief court hearing at U.S. District Court on Tuesday, at which Magistrate Judge Barry Poretz set the trial date.
Strickland, in court with lawyer Rodney Leffler, did not enter a plea, did not speak during the hearing and declined comment after.
U.S. Park Police charged Strickland with driving under the influence and failure to stay in lanes on Jan. 7. Police said they spotted Strickland driving erratically on the George Washington parkway and said he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Strickland has been charged with drunken driving three times. He completed a year's probation and 30 hours of community service for a 1998 conviction. He was acquitted of a similar charge in 1999.
