DENVER (AP) - For the second time in 10 months, a Colorado lawmaker plans to witness the Oklahoma execution of a man convicted of killing his aunt.
Loyd LaFevers, 35, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection Tuesday in McAlester, Okla., for the murder of Addie Hawley, 84, in Oklahoma City. She kidnapped, raped and set afire in 1985.
``This guy committed the most horrible murder you could ever imagine,'' state Sen. Ken Chlouber, R-Leadville, said Wednesday.
LaFevers was scheduled to die last March and Chlouber went to the prison to watch. A federal appeals court blocked the execution so new DNA evidence could be examined.
In July, an Oklahoma court ruled the DNA was insufficient to overturn the conviction.
LaFevers' lawyers planned another appeal this week, arguing the DNA suggested co-defendant Randall Cannon was the primary culprit and LaFevers' involvement was minimal.
Cannon was also convicted in the case and is on Oklahoma's death row.
Chlouber said LaFevers' execution is overdue. ``It was almost 16 years ago,'' he said of the murder. ``And this guy has continued to live _ and live very well _ at taxpayers' expense.''
LaFevers and Cannon were convicted of breaking into Hawley's Oklahoma City home after she returned from church on June 24, 1985. Trial testimony said they wanted to steal her car.
They severely beat Hawley, stuffed her into the trunk and drove her to a vacant lot, where they set her and the car on fire.
When firefighters arrived she was still alive but had been burned over 60 percent of her body.
Chlouber said he has no desire to talk with LaFevers. ``I'd like to kill him. I'd like to kill him in the same manner he executed my aunt,'' he said.
``I know my momma wouldn't be proud of me for saying that. I'm probably not proud of myself for saying that. But that is just the way it is.''
