(Jay-AP) -- A 23-year-old trusty at the Delaware County Jail has been charged for allegedly sneaking a pair of pliers to inmates who made a failed escape bid yesterday.

Officials says Jeremy Payne has been charged with aiding an escape.

Sheriff Lenden Woodruff says Payne was paid 500 dollars by family members of two inmates to smuggle the pliers to them.

The inmates are 39-year-old Randy Wishon and 54-year-old Raney Wilson.

Both were being held on illegal drug charges and now face charges of possessing dangerous contraband in a correctional facility and attempted escape.

Woodruff says the escape plan was foiled when a jailer noticed a stainless steel screen over a window had been tampered with.

During a shakedown, the pliers were found on Wishon.

Sheriff Woodruff says trusties will no longer have any contact with inmates.
