MILFORD, Ind. (AP) — A food company has recalled about 4,400 pounds of duck-meat products after dangerous listeria bacteria was found in a duckling.
The products, produced by Serenade Foods Inc., were shipped to restaurants and caterers in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.
The listeria monocytogens bacteria was also found in a drain at the company, a division of Maple Leaf Farms, a company official said.
No illnesses have been reported as a result of eating the food.
Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can be fatal in children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems, and can also cause miscarriages. Symptoms include high fever, severe headaches and nausea.
The recalled products have the number EST P-2375 inside the USDA seal of inspection, a statement from the Food Safety and Inspection Service said.
The company markets fresh and frozen white Pekin ducklings to all 50 states and many foreign countries.
