Tulsa has more than 200 of those new portable defibrillators, do you know where the nearest one is if you needed it? Most people do not and that's why Tulsa's ambulance service wants to make a map of all the defibrillators in Tulsa.
At around $2000 each, they're easier for businesses and schools to keep on hand. They're used to shock the heart of a person in cardiac arrest to restore their pulse. EMSA says having a map of their locations would make it easy to tell someone who calls 9-1-1, if there is one nearby. You want that to take place in the first six minutes, because six minutes are the most critical for the oxygen supply to the brain,†said Registered Nurse Sharon Harrison.
EMSA currently only knows the location of about 40 units. If your business has a defibrillator, you can be register it by clicking here.
