(Alva-AP) -- Northwestern Oklahoma State University has joined the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Northwestern will begin league play this fall.

Northwestern will compete in men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball and women's soccer, with additional sports planned in the future. The football team will remain with the Central States Football League. The S-A-C does not have football as a conference sport.

Northwestern will end its membership in the Red River Athletic Conference after the spring sports season. It will become the tenth member of the 13-year-old Sooner Athletic Conference.
