Edmond officials ask for sales tax on Internet purchases

(Edmond-AP) -- City officials in Edmond want the legislature to levy the sales tax on all Internet purchases.

Edmond City Manager Leonard Martin says currently only businesses with a physical location in a state are required to charge sales tax on purchases. He says failure to collect sales taxes diminishes the ability to raise funds for services such as law enforcement.

City Clerk Nancy Nichols says copies of the city's resolution that supports collecting sales taxes on Internet purchases will be mailed to state legislators.
