(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A ranking House Democrat wants to extend the deadline for electricity deregulation in Oklahoma.
Representative Jim Glover of Elgin co-authored an unsuccessful bill to deregulate the state's electric utility industry last year. But Glover has filed a bill asking the Legislature to move the deadline for deregulation in Oklahoma from July first, 2002, to January first, 2003.
Glover's bill is one of six pieces of legislation that have been pre-filed in the Oklahoma Legislature to delay or remove the implementation deadline set in the Electric Restructuring Act of 1997.
Uncertainty over electricity deregulation in Oklahoma follows ongoing problems with a deregulation plan implemented in California that has led to skyrocketing prices and dwindling supplies of electricity.
