OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The condition of an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper hit by a pickup this week has been upgraded from critical to serious, officials said Thursday.

Gordon Manning remains in intensive care in a hospital in Texarkana, Texas, a representative said.

He was struck by a pickup traveling at least 50 mph while directing traffic around a location where a wrecked semi-trailer was being unloaded in on U.S. 70 south of Idabel Tuesday evening, said Lt. Chris West, patrol spokesman.

The driver of the pickup said he saw the emergency lights at the scene, but didn't see Manning.
