Icy roads means the trash trucks also have a hard time getting through for their regular pickups. One north Tulsa neighborhood hasn't seen a trash pick up since before Christmas.
Two weeks worth of trash isn't pretty. Even without the added boxes, and paper from the holidays, it is still quite a pile. The people who live near 35th and North Lansing Avenue want some action.
"I've called refuse 15 times, and I always get a busy signal,†said resident Audrey Toombs. “A signal like the phone is off the hook, so I didn't get any action there. Then I called the mayor's action line, and they first said it would be picked up Friday, then on Saturday, and as you can see they didn't do it."
Latonya Williams thought she heard a trash truck Saturday morning, and in her rush to get her things to the curb, took a spill. "We've been slipping, and sliding,†she said. “The other day, I slid all the way into the street." It wasn't even a trash truck after all. Since her trash can is full, she's been tying up her additional trash bags, and putting them out in the back yard in hopes of keeping them way from meddlesome dogs. "We're hoping and praying they will be out soon," Williams said.
Resident David Lee Robinson, Junior hasn't had as much luck. More than once in two weeks, he's been out to the curb picking up trash that's been torn apart by animals. "I’ve been trying to keep the dogs out of it,†he explained. “I looked out a minute ago, and saw birds in the trash."
The neighbors initially understood that trash trucks couldn't make it due to the weather. Now they say even though the neighborhoods aren't as clear as the main roads, they believe the roads are clear enough for the trucks to make it through to pick up their trash.
The city told The News on Six that neighborhood must have been missed during the Saturday trash pick-up. They say there's nothing preventing the trucks from getting out there, and they expect the trash will be picked up Wednesday, which is the regular trash day.
