CHICAGO (AP) — Outfielder Magglio Ordonez agreed Thursday to a one-year, $3.75 million contract with the Chicago White Sox.
The right fielder had a career-best 32 home runs, 126 RBIs and 102 runs scored last season. He was the third player in franchise history with 30 home runs, 100 RBIs and 100 runs.
``We are continuing to talk with Magglio's representatives about the possibilities of a long-term agreement,'' Ken Williams, the team's general manager, said. ``But we all felt the initial step was to take care of next season's contract first.''
Ordonez had a .315 batting average but struggled during the playoffs. He was eligible for arbitration.
