(Tulsa-AP) -- The director of the Tulsa City-County Health Department says a $3.3 million dollar grant will be used to help Oklahomans stop smoking.

Gary Cox says the grant that was generated from the state's tobacco-settlement funds will pay for a tobacco prevention and reduction program. He says the program will serve as a model for other counties.

Cox says a demonstration project will be created to teach those who use tobacco the benefits of quitting, and to prevent children from starting smoking.

State health officials say if the program is a success similar programs could be started statewide in four- to five-years.
