DENVER (AP) _ A federal judge has scheduled a hearing for Timothy McVeigh to request an end to all appeals of his conviction in the Oklahoma City bombing and to set a date for his execution.
U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch, who presided over McVeigh's trial, signed an order Thursday scheduling the hearing for Dec. 28 in his Denver courtroom. McVeigh will participate in the hearing by video conferencing from a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.
McVeigh, 32, has asked that all appeals in his case be dropped and his death sentence carried out within 120 days. In a filing made public on Tuesday, he gave no explanation for his decision but said he reserved the right to seek executive clemency.
McVeigh, a decorated Gulf War veteran, was convicted of murder and conspiracy and sentenced to death in the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building that killed 168 people and injured more than 500.
