(Waldo, Wisconsin-AP) -- A Wisconsin cheese company is recalling several brands of string cheese sold in Midwestern stores because they may be contaminated with Listeria.

Schneider Cheese said Monday it hasn't received any reports of illnesses.

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and other people with weak immune systems.

The company is recalling eight-ounce and 16-ounce packages of Schneider Cheese String Cheese, 16-ounce packages of Midwest Pride String Cheese and 16-ounce packages of Gibbsville String Cheese.

The products were sold in stores in Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Schneider spokesman Evan Zeppos says the company hasn't found the source of the possible contamination.
