LONDON (AP) — Elton John, one of pop music's most flamboyant dressers, raised more than $615,000 for his AIDS foundation with the sale of thousands of his clothes.

Fans lined up for hours outside a central London shop where 15,000 items of clothing from Sir Elton and his partner David Furnish were on sale last week.

It was the third time he had organized such a sale but the latest was the most successful, beating the previous record of $480,000.

He thanked all who supported the sale and added: ``Whatever you bought I hope it will bring you pleasure and you have fun wearing it.''

The most expensive item sold was the suit John wore in the video of ``Can You Feel The Love Tonight,'' which went for $5,000.
