VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Actor Michael Moriarty, one of the original cast members of the long-running NBC series ``Law & Order,'' appeared in a Canadian court on an assault charge.
Moriarty, 59, is charged with striking a female companion at a restaurant last month.
He appeared without a lawyer Thursday, telling the judge an unidentified friend would represent him. He was not asked to enter a plea, and was ordered to appear at another hearing on Dec. 14.
Since moving to Vancouver in 1998, Moriarty has worked on television and film projects and recorded a jazz CD. He was nominated for four Emmys during his four seasons as ``Law & Order'' prosecutor Ben Stone.
