OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Kerr-McGee Corp. has bought the rights to search for oil within a 2.5 million-acre swath of ocean off the cost of Africa, the company announced Tuesday.
The site off the shore of Benin, Africa, ranges from about 300 feet to about 10,000 feet deep. Kerr-McGee made the purchase through its wholly owned subsidiary Kerr-McGee Benin Consortium S.A.
Oklahoma City-based Kerr-McGee now holds interest in more than 32 million acres in eight countries, the company said.
