MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board on Monday denied clemency for a death row inmate who is scheduled for execution on Jan. 18.

The board voted unanimously to deny clemency for Dion Smallwood, 31. Smallwood was convicted in the Feb. 5, 1992 murder of Lois Frederick, 68, in Oklahoma County.

Frederick was killed after an argument with Smallwood concerning Frederick's daughter, according to the Attorney General's Office.

She was hit in the head with a croquet mallet and her body was doused with gasoline and burned.
