OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- T-shirts aren't usually considered high fashion, but they are quickly becoming vogue among Oklahoma football fans Sooner fans flocked to sports stores Sunday to buy T-shirts proclaiming their team as Big 12 champions headed for a national championship showdown at the Orange Bowl.
The Sooners earned a Jan. 3 date to play for the national championship in Miami's Orange Bowl by beating Kansas State 27-24 Saturday night in the Big 12 championship game at Kansas City, Mo.
The Athletic Village in Oklahoma City sold a wide range of OU Big 12 champion shirts. And they were selling fast, a store spokesman said.
The Big Red Shop placed orders with two suppliers for championship shirts.
In Norman, Balfour's University Spirit was trying to keep up with customer demand.
"The shirts are flying," a spokeswoman said Sunday afternoon.
"We got two grosses (288) of Big 12 shirts at 11:42 today, and we only have about half of that left."
The store is expecting a shipment of Orange Bowl shirts and championship hats to arrive Monday, said Grover Ozmun, the store's owner.
The store is hoping to keep up with the rush of customer demand by ordering with different suppliers in order to offer a range on OU merchandise, he said.
"All kinds of new stuff is arriving every day," Ozmun said.
