(Tulsa-AP) -- Parents who don't send their kids to school when they should face the judge Monday.
A Tulsa County District Court will hear cases against 50 parents and guardians charged with truancy in the county. It's the largest truancy hearing of the year in Tulsa County.
The hearing set for District Court is for parents charged with violating the Compulsory Education Act. This is the eleventh year since the court began its truancy prosecution, which is now considered a model nationwide.
School districts in Tulsa County report flagrant absenteeism weekly to the District Attorney's Office. It's a misdemeanor charge that alleges unlawful, willful and wrongful neglect, and refusal to compel a minor child to attend school.
Four unexcused absences within a four-week span is considered out of compliance.
