(South Bend-AP) -- Notre Dame's Bob Davie, South Carolina's Lou Holtz and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops are finalists for the Football News Coach of the Year Award.
Stoops has guided the Sooners to a ten-and-oh record, which includes victories over Nebraska and Kansas State. They're ranked Number One in both polls and in the B-C-S standings.
Davie came under heavy criticism after the Irish went five-and-seven last season. But Notre Dame is eight-and-two and ranked Number Eleven entering this weekend's showdown with Southern Cal. A victory over the Trojans could give Notre Dame an at-large berths in the B-C-S games.
Holtz took over at South Carolina last year and the Gamecocks went oh-and-eleven. But Holtz helped spark a dramatic turnaround this season, in which South Carolina has gone seven-and-three and become bowl eligible.
The winner will be announced December Sixth.
