GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Ted Williams has left the hospital two weeks after having a pacemaker implanted.
A Shands Hospital spokeswoman said the 82-year-old Hall of Fame slugger was released Monday.
``Boy, am I happy to be going home,'' Williams told The Boston Globe from his hospital room. ``I've really felt better in the last week or 10 days.''
Jennifer Porter, the spokeswoman for the hospital on the University of Florida campus, said Tuesday that at the request of Williams' family she was not allowed to report on his condition or whether he would receive outpatient treatment.
Williams was admitted Oct. 30 after having difficulty breathing. A week later, doctors performed two minor procedures to regulate his heartbeat.
Dr. Anne Curtis, who performed the procedures, said Williams tolerated them well.
``I don't have any pain and I'm breathing better,'' Williams said in the Globe on Tuesday. ``People here have been incredible and I'm getting along well. I had a damn good breakfast today and I wasn't interrupted by people telling me to eat this and eat that.''
Williams was the last major leaguer to bat .400, hitting .406 in 1941.
He lives in the Crystal River area on Florida's west coast, outside Gainesville.
