LOS ANGELES (AP) â€” Former ``Married ... With Children'' star Ed O'Neill plans to return to television in a new CBS police drama.

O'Neill will star as a tough Irish police detective in the series, tentatively titled ``Big Apple,'' the Daily Variety reported. CBS committed to 13 episodes earlier this year.

O'Neill, 54, is best known for his comedic role as Al Bundy on the Fox sitcom ``Married ... With Children,'' which ended in 1997 after 10 years. He has had supporting roles in films such as ``The Spanish Prisoner,'' ``Lucky Numbers'' and ``The Bone Collector.''
