A Yale man was killed and his wife was hospitalized after the car they were in was struck by a school bus filled with band members on their way to a football game Friday evening, authorities said.
Nobody on the bus was injured.
Homer W. Ray Jr., 70, was a passenger in the car driven by his wife, Mae Beth Cain Ray, 72, that was attempting to cross U.S. 69 about 6:30 p.m., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
The bus was from Morris Public Schools and was carrying 32 people, some of them middle-school age, from Morris to Vinita for a football playoff game, trooper Todd Riggs said.
Riggs said the bus had just exited the Muskogee Turnpike when the accident occurred.
A school official said a bus from Hilldale Public Schools was sent to take the students home.
Mae Beth Cain Ray was listed in critical condition at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center late Friday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
In another accident, Thelmer Leo Kellam, 78, of Durant was killed when hit by a van while walking across U.S. 70 just west of town Friday evening, the patrol said.
The driver of the van, Richard Dean Barker, 67, of Fort Worth, was not injured, authorities said.
