(Lubbock, Texas-AP) -- Oklahoma's high school player of the year for 1999 will be suiting up against a team from his home state this weekend when Texas Tech hosts Oklahoma State.
The uniform is new for Tech freshman Wes Welker, but the Red Raider will be playing an offensive scheme similar to that used at Heritage Hall. That's the Oklahoma City private high school where he played.
Welker plays running back and wide receiver and has returned two punts for touchdowns this season.
The six-and-four Red Raiders have struggled to a two-and-four Big 12 Conference record, and hope Welker's good for another big performance this weekend against O-State.
The two-and-six Cowboys have problems of their own. O-S-U is oh-and-five in the conference, and have lost six straight.
