(Sapulpa-AP) -- Creek County Sheriff Larry Fugate wants a recount of Tuesday's election that he lost by just 14 votes.

The secretary of the county election board says Fugate requested the recount yesterday after losing the race to Sapulpa Police Department Lieutenant Steve Toliver.

Fugate could not be reached for comment.

Toliver says he understands why Fugate wants a recount, adding that he would probably do the same thing because the race was so close.

The recount by election board members will be by hand next Thursday.

Fugate has put up a three-thousand dollar deposit for the recount. If Fugate wins, the money will be returned to him and the county will pay the cost.

If Toliver wins Fugate pays the bill.
