(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma football team has beaten the New York Yankees.

The editors of Sports Illustrated have chosen the Sooners over the World Series champions for the cover of this week's edition of the magazine.

The last time Oklahoma was on the cover of Sports Illustrated was in 1989 when former quarterback Charles Thompson was pictured in handcuffs and orange prison clothes.

This time the cover could be quarterback Josh Huepel (HY'-pul) or coach Bob Stoops.

The magazine is expected to be at newsstands on Friday, and extra editions are being sent to the state.

Normally Oklahoma is sent 880 issues for newsstands, but Sports Illustrated officials plan to ship 27-thousand copies to the state this week.
