(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Election day is a week away and Oklahoma has not received a campaign visit by either the Republican or Democratic candidate.
That's no surprise to political observers, who say no campaign stops are expected in the state.
Oklahoma State political science professor Jim Davis says both Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore know that Bush is apparently a shoo-in here. Oklahoma has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964, when Lyndon Johnson carried the state.
Bush did visit the state twice during the primary season, and potential first lady Tipper Gore spent several hours in Tulsa in February.
The wives of Bush and running mate Dick Cheney also spent a few hours in Tulsa recently. Laura Bush and Lynn Cheney were headed to campaign events in Wisconsin when their plane lost cabin pressure and made an unscheduled landing in Tulsa.
