Authorities discovered almost 300 dogs and cats living a north Tulsa County house Monday. According to law enforcement officials, many of the animals are sick and have been neglected.

Tulsa County Sheriff deputies say a passerby called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Monday to report a large number of animals at the house located in the 5800 block of North Mingo Road. Sheriff’s deputies went to the house and discovered as many as 300 animals. Dr. Terry Stacy, a Bixby Veterinarian was asked to evaluate the animals’ health. She says many of the dogs had mange and other health problems. "Having just been out of school over a year, this tears me up, to think that people allow this to go on," Stacy said. Stacy also tells The News on Six that some of the animals may have to be put down.

Many of the other animals will be taken to local shelters where they'll be treated and adopted out. The S-P-C-A says the homeowner did have papers certifying her as an animal rescuer, but they say she couldn't handle the large number of animals. The woman has not been arrested or charged with any crime.
