ATLANTA (AP) — The Coca-Cola Co.'s former president and chief operating officer has begun serving as an adviser to the company's senior management.
Donald Keough, 74, retired from Coke in 1993 but served as a consultant to the beverage maker until 1998.
In a memo to employees, Coke chairman and chief executive Douglas Daft said Monday he had periodically consulted with Keough informally and that he had sought to formalize that arrangement. Keough, who will not be a Coke employee, will be paid as a consultant.
``Don has unique insights into the history and traditions that continue to contribute to Coca-Cola's acceptance as a good neighbor around the world and its preeminence among the world's brands,'' Daft wrote.
During a 43-year career at Coke, Keough also served as chairman of the board of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., Coke's largest bottler; Coca Cola Foods; and Coca-Cola USA.
Keough will continue his duties as chairman of the board of investment bank Allen & Co.
