(Stilwell-AP) -- The district attorney in Cherokee County wants the attorney general to name a special prosecutor to investigate a principal accused of grade tampering.

District Attorney Dianne Barker Harrold has already assigned two investigators to look into the case of Stilwell High School Principal Leon Hill.

A spokesman for Attorney General Drew Edmondson says Harrold requested a special prosecutor, and that all he's waiting for is a formal letter of request.

Hill was placed on administrative leave with pay by the school board after a committee found more than a dozen instances of grade tampering.

The committee also says college credit was given when no classes were taken, and that some students were given credit for classes the school didn't offer.
