(Crescent-AP) -- Felony charges of possessing a firearm on school property were filed in Logan County today against a suspended Crescent High School student.

Eighteen-year-old Todd Henning was suspended after school officials found a pistol and several rounds of ammunition in his pickup on October Second.

The school officials were searching for drugs in cars in the school parking lot when they saw empty beer cans in Henning's truck, prompting them to search the truck. The pistol was inside the truck, under the front seat.

Crescent Police Chief Jack Harris says the pistol had a gun lock on it, and that Henning cooperated fully with authorities.

Harris says Henning told him he had been target practicing and forgot to leave the pistol at home.

If convicted of the charges, Henning faces two years in jail and a five-thousand dollar fine.
