(Tulsa-AP) -- A Tulsa woman has been awarded more than $7.9 million in damages in a civil trial involving her ex-husband and investment opportunities in oil and gas properties.

A Tulsa County jury granted Karen J. Nelson $6 million in damages against her ex-husband, Don H. Nelson of Greenwich, Connecticut.

The couple formed a holding company before they were married which was designed to provide oil and gas investment opportunities.

Karen Nelson ended her daily involvement with the company after the couple married in 1982 based on assurances she would receive the same financial opportunities. She continued to invest in the properties.

The couple separated in 1995 and were divorced in 1998.

Karen Nelson's attorneys say she discovered funds she believed were mishandled and contrary to a 1994 contract.
