A fire destroyed hundreds of pieces of football equipment in Coweta Saturday morning.
Firefighters believe someone may have intentionally started the fire in the Coweta Junior High locker room.
The superintendent says the fire destroyed the equipment of 7th, 8th and 9th grade football players.
He says the equipment is covered by insurance.
The athletic director spent Saturday trying to find new equipment throughout the region.
They have called off a game on Monday, but hope to have new equipment by Thursday's games.
“That's are plan at this point and time. He's trying to locate enough equipment to suit up 117 players next week. Hopefully, within a week we will have the equipment replaced and everything will be back to normal," says Superintendent Sam Farmer.
The superintendent says the fire destroyed about 60 to 70 thousand dollars worth of football equipment and caused about 175-thousand dollars worth of damage to the locker rooms.
Coweta firefighters say there were several signs of vandalism, but, it's up to the fire marshal to decide whether it was arson.
